Austrian meatloaf — seasoned minced beef and pork with egg, soaked bread, and marjoram, wrapped in bacon.

Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 250g minced pork
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 bread rolls, soaked in milk and squeezed
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 2 tsp dried marjoram
  • 6 strips bacon, to wrap

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients except bacon together thoroughly. Season generously.
  2. Shape into a loaf and wrap in bacon strips. Place in a roasting tin.
  3. Roast at 180C for 60 minutes, basting with pan juices every 20 minutes.
  4. Rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with roast potatoes and braised cabbage.
