Ingredients

  • 500g fresh chestnuts
  • coarse salt to serve

Method

  1. Score a deep cross on the flat side of each chestnut — this stops them exploding.
  2. Place in a chestnut pan or roasting pan. Roast over charcoal or at 200C for 15-20 minutes.
  3. They are done when the scored skin curls back and the flesh is tender.
  4. Peel while still hot and serve in paper bags with coarse salt.
